The KTA Annual Symposium serves as a crucial platform for dialogue among policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders, focused on leveraging intellectual property (IP) and technology to advance Uganda’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, the symposium embraced the spirit of Ubuntu, “I am because you are,” recognizing that effective laws and policies must be shaped with community input.
As the official events management partner, ETHOS was thrilled to collaborate with KTA to create a meaningful and impactful experience for all participants. Our partnership aimed to elevate the symposium’s mission while integrating sustainability at every level.
Commitment to Sustainability
ETHOS prioritized sustainable practices throughout the symposium’s planning and execution.
By implementing a virtual attendance option, we significantly reduced carbon emissions from travel, demonstrating our commitment to environmental responsibility. Our goal was to create an event that was both socially responsible and environmentally conscious.
We further minimized our ecological footprint by opting for virtual check-ins, saving approximately 6 sheets of paper. We complemented this approach with digital communication, sending timely emails to attendees with essential information, reducing the need for printed materials.
Local Sourcing and Efficient Coordination
We coordinated with vendors who were 100% locally sourced from the surrounding community, supporting the local economy and minimizing the carbon footprint associated with transportation. Additionally, pre-event site visits streamlined operations and ensured a smooth setup and execution.
We maintained high attendance rates throughout the event: 90% of guests attended on Day 1, 80% on Day 2, and 64 out of 70 participants joined on the final day. Our meticulous planning and coordination created a productive and engaging environment for attendees.
Creating a Conducive Atmosphere
The venue setup thoughtfully employed 100% reusable materials for decorations, banners, and seating arrangements. This aligned with our sustainability goals and fostered a positive atmosphere for stimulating discussions.
Why Greening Events Matters
Sustainable events offer numerous benefits for businesses beyond environmental advantages. By showcasing their commitment to corporate social responsibility, companies can enhance their reputation, attract environmentally conscious customers, and foster positive relationships with stakeholders. Sustainable practices can also lead to cost savings through waste reduction, energy efficiency, and local sourcing.
Looking Ahead
The KTA Annual Symposium stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of sustainable practices in event management. ETHOS is proud to have played a key role in this initiative, ensuring the symposium not only met its objectives but also set a standard for future events.
